
DATCP has monitored early-season black cutworm migration flights for more than 20 years, with the help of volunteer cooperators throughout the state. Moth counts from the annual trapping survey provide precise data on the timing of black cutworm arrival into Wisconsin and are used to forecast optimal scouting and treatment windows based on significant captures. A significant capture occurs when nine or more moths are trapped in two nights.
For the 2023 season, 50 pheromone traps have been established in 21 counties. Current multistate migration
