DATCP has monitored early-season black cutworm migration flights for more than 25 years, with the help of volunteer cooperators throughout the state. Moth counts from the annual trapping survey provide precise data on the timing of black cutworm arrival into Wisconsin and are used to forecast optimal scouting and treatment windows based on intense captures. An intense capture is nine or more moths trapped in two nights.
For the 2025 season, 63 pheromone traps have been established in 25 counties. Current multistate migration maps are available at Great Lakes and Maritimes Pest Monitoring Network (select BCW tab) and Black Cutworm corn ipmPIPE.
