The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is responsible for monitoring the accuracy and safety of devices used for measurement, storage, and commerce statewide. The DATCP Bureau of Weights and Measures provides mass and volume standard calibration services at the Wisconsin Weights and Measures Laboratory. Services may be requested by city and state regulatory officials, state licensed weights and measures service companies, and businesses. The lab maintains the State of Wisconsin standards of mass and volume and has a Certificate of Measurement Traceability from the NIST Division of Weights and Measures to demonstrate conformance to ISO 17025 (through NIST HB 143).
Standards may be dropped off or sent to the Metrology Laboratory by common carrier
(UPS, FedEx., etc.)
after an appointment is scheduled. All work needs to have scheduled appointments. Receiving hours at the lab are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
All standards sent or delivered for calibration should meet NIST standards for construction, cleanliness, and appearance. Please see our
Guidelines for Submitting Weights and/or Volume Measures.
