Animal Poisoning Suspected

​​​​The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has a toxic response team. If you suspect an animal has been poisoned by feed or by pesticide, lead or other hazardous substances, take these steps:​

Food Animals

  • Contact your veterinarian immediately.
  • Do not send the animal or its meat, milk or eggs to market.
  • If your veterinarian determines that poisoning is a possibility, they should call:
    • (608) 294-0801 or (608) 224-4500 (weekdays 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
    • (800) 943-0003 (nights and weekends)​

​P​​ets and Other ​Animals

  • ​Contact your veterinarian immediately.
  • ​If your veterinarian determines that poisoning is a possibility, they should call (608) 294-0801​ and leave a voicemail and telephone number if nobody answers.

Wild Animals

  • ​Contact your local humane society, animal control officer, or Department of Natural Resources Service Center.
  • Call (608) 294-0801. Leave a voicemail and telephone number if no one answers.​
