Milk Proficiency Testing Program

Milk Proficiency Testing samples are annual samples required by the FDA to evaluate analyst competency. Each year, analysts in accredited Grade A dairy laboratories and analysts using a visual read test for drug residue screening are required to analyze Milk Proficiency Test samples. Requirements for analysis are described in Section 6 and Appendix N of the Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO).

Milk Proficiency Test samples are prepared each March by Wisconsin's Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (WDATCP) Bureau of Laboratory Services (BLS).

FAQs

Where do I return my shipper?

Please return shippers to:

     WDATCP Bureau of Laboratory Services
     2601 Agriculture Drive, Suite 150
     Madison, WI 53718

The following items must be returned with the shipper: icepacks, polycell floater vial rack, and pegboard. Please note that if shippers are not returned by April 17, 2023, a $50 replacement fee will be added to the billing invoice.

Why won't the "email results" button work?

Some browsers do not support the wide range of PDF features that Adobe Acrobat supports. To enable this button, turn off the browser's built-in PDF viewer (this is not possible with Chrome), or download the form and open it in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader. If the submit button still does not work after opening it in Adobe Acrobat or Reader, email your completed forms to DATCPBLSProficiencyTesting@wisconsin.gov. More instructions can be found here.

How do I report an "estimated" result?

For coliform tests, report your result followed by the letter 'E' (e.g. <1E, 10E). For all other tests, report your result as usual but select 'Estimated' from the dropdown list next to each entry field in the final column ('Equal to' is selected by default).
