Risk Assessments and Herd Management Plans (RAMPs) as part of the Johne’s Disease Control Program as well as Johne’s disease vaccinations must be performed by veterinarians specially certified. Johne’s certified veterinarians are required to receive additional training in the control of Johne’s disease and Johne’s vaccine certified veterinarians are required to receive additional training in administering the vaccine.
Veterinarians interested in becoming Johne’s disease certified to perform RAMPs for their clients can go to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Continuing Education website and take the online course #5001 – Wisconsin Johne’s Disease Veterinary Certificate Program. The final part of this course involves an on-farm visit to perform a RAMP with your district veterinarian.
Veterinarians interested in becoming Johne’s disease vaccine certified to perform Johne’s disease vaccinations for their clients must first take course #5001 as noted above. Hands on training for vaccination can then be scheduled with your district veterinarian.
Veterinarians interested in performing RAMPs for goat producers must also start by completing course #5001. Certification for this purpose can then be finalized by completing course #1028--Johne's Disease in Goat Herds.
Veterinary recertification is required every five years. Johne’s certified veterinarians can renew their certification by taking a recertification course at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Continuing Education website.
