Cattle & Bison - Canada, Mexico, and Other Countries

Except for imports from Mexico and lactating dairy cattle imported to fairs and exhibitions, cattle and bison imported to Wisconsin from other countries have no additional requirements beyond those established by the United States Department of Agriculture.​

Cattle and bison imported into Wisconsin directly from Mexico have additional requirements including:

  • quarantine of the entire Wisconsin destination herd. 
  • The imported cattle and bison must test negative to tuberculosis no sooner than 60 days after the date of import.
  • The quarantine will be lifted after the imported cattle and bison have tested negative to tuberculosis.

Lactating dairy cattle imported into Wisconsin to fairs and exhibitions have additional requirements.​
