MADISON – Wisconsin has lost a great friend and citizen with the passing of Ed Brooks. He farmed for his entire life, but made time for public service, too. From the town board to the Legislature, he left his mark as a thoughtful and generous man. He worked hard for farmers, serving on and chairing many co-op boards. In the Legislature, he was an advocate for public schools. In his personal life, he often stepped up to buy animals in youth livestock auctions, because he knew that money would go toward getting kids started in life.
We’ve seen an outpouring of sadness, respect and gratitude from both sides of the aisle since Ed’s death was announced. That speaks to the kind of man he was, to how much he’ll be missed and how much we owe him.
