Following
up on an outcome from the 2024 DATCP-led trade mission to Kenya and Tanzania,
DATCP in collaboration with in-country stakeholders, experts from Wisconsin
Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, American Embryo Transfer Association, and National
Association for Animal Breeders developed a training program focused on
training-the-trainers for the Northern Tanzania dairy industry. We developed
programs for small-stakeholder farmers and for veterinarians, Para
veterinarians, and AI technicians. The skills taught included sanitary semen
and embryo handling, breeding, whole-blood pregnancy diagnosis, milking
sanitation, preparing California mastitis test (CMT) solution, and performing a
CMT test. Close to 260 attendees were trained over the course of the week.
