DATCP Discusses New World Screwworm with Panama Officials

On October 16, 2026, Secretary Randy Romansky, along with representatives from DATCP, Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL), and USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), met with representatives from Panama’s Ministry of Agricultural Development with support from the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA). During their meeting, they discussed Panama’s response to the rise of New World screwworm, which Wisconsin is monitoring for. Over the course of the meeting, Panama’s health officials highlighted the value of building a strong relationship with farmers and transportation companies, as they are on the front lines of fighting this infestation. It’s collaborations like this that allow food security to be a mutual value for both Panama and the State of Wisconsin.
