Building Farm to School and ECE Networks and Procurement Systems in Waupaca County is building the collaborative network of farm to school and early childhood programs on a local level. The work supports nutrition and know-your-farmer education programming; helps food service staff develop recipes and menus; builds logistics, pricing models, and templates which support production costs for farmers; helps with the cost of aggregation and distribution; and fits within the parameters of school and early childhood provider budgets.
The Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative's local food coordinator is building a collaborative effort across Waupaca County schools and early childhood education programs (ECEs), linking procurement economics/logistics with childhood and student nutrition/local food education initiatives. Harvest of the Month program schedules have been developed the are participating in FoodWIse cooking classes, and organized a farm tour and berry picking at Turner's Fresh Market. In fall 2024, they will provide their first Harvest of the Month presentations in the classroom, as well as Harvest of the Month food item distributions for the lunch line.
