Growing Tree 4.jpegWECA's Farm to ECE: Racine County Edible Gardens project supported 10 regulated, underserved childcare programs in increasing access to locally grown food through hands-on gardening, provider training, and infrastructure support. Nearly 500 children engaged in planting, harvesting, and taste-testing activities that fostered curiosity, healthy eating habits, and food literacy. Educators and families received culturally relevant recipes and support materials, and local food producers were introduced through partnerships with Beaver Creek Gardens and the Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative. The project engaged 30 farmers and resulted in deeper connections between childcare centers and local food systems. WECA plans to expand the initiative to 16 new sites in Milwaukee and Dane counties in 2025.
