Pesticides

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection enforces Wisconsin’s pesticide laws. Persons and businesses that sell or use pesticides must follow these requirements to protect humans and the environment and to help ensure that food and agricultural products are safe and wholesome.

The department’s pesticide rules cover the sales, distribution, proper handling, storage, mixing, loading, application and disposal of pesticides.  This includes agricultural, industrial and commercial and residential and household pesticides.

In addition, DATCP serves as an agent for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which allows the department to enforce federal pesticide laws in addition to state laws.

The Agchem Management Bureau within DATCP also employs environmental enforcement specialists who investigate pesticide complaints and work with pesticide applicators and businesses to meet the state’s requirements on pesticide use.
