Ginseng
Wisconsin Cultivated Ginseng brochure (2 page PDF)
Cultivated ginseng generates up to $20 million annually in gross income statewide. Wisconsin and out-of-state residents who deal in ginseng root or seed must meet state requirements.
You will need a PDF reader to view the application packets, which you can print and mail to us with your payment.
Program Changes
In late 2009, the Ginseng Dealer and Ginseng Grower registration packets were revised with ginseng dealers submitting one set of forms while ginseng growers send in a different set of forms. Previously, dealers and growers used the same form. The Out-of-State Ginseng Dealer Registration and Shipment Certificate application forms have been eliminated. Out of state dealers will use the dealer forms.

Wisconsin residents who grow cultivated ginseng root or seed must register with the Department. Each shipment of cultivated ginseng that is sold to a Wisconsin dealer or shipped out of state also requires a Ginseng Shipment Certificate from our Department.
Certificates have no expiration date as long as you are registered for the year in which the certificate is used. There is a $15.00 fee per certificate. The certificates will be mailed to you after you return the completed application along with the appropriate fee. One certificate is required for each sale or shipment of ginseng, regardless of shipment weight.
The application packet contains an instructional letter, a registration/certificate form, an informational brochure and a social security form which is required for individuals or sole proprietors who apply for a license, permit or certificate from the State of Wisconsin.
