The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection's (DATCP) Apiary Program monitors commercial, migratory and backyard beekeepers to prevent introduction and spread of honey bee pests, parasites and pathogens. Inspectors examine migratory bee colonies entering Wisconsin from states and those leaving as well.
To address concerns about pollinator declines, honey bee health, and the future of honey and crop production, DATCP and University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers have developed the state’s first Pollinator Protection Plan intended to promote the health and recovery of pollinator populations in Wisconsin through voluntary actions.
