Reminder! Growers, if your crops already are recorded on DriftWatch.org, now is a great time to check that your account is up-to-date for the 2013 growing season. You can add or delete fields from your DriftWatch account. You also can change field boundaries or change crops within a field. If you don’t have a free DriftWatch account, now is the time to start one.
DriftWatch™ hosts a website
meant to help protect sensitive crops from pesticide drift. This includes organic crops, grapes, and fresh market fruits and vegetables, as well as beehives. Growers register their sites of a half acre or more on the website. Their locations are recorded on Google Maps ™. Pesticide applicators can check Driftwatch™ before applications, and take additional steps beyond their normal procedures to prevent drift.
The more producers who register fields in the program, the more useful the map is to applicators.
DriftWatch™ is free for both growers and applicators. It is not available for homeowners or growers whose crops are less than a half acre.
