General Information

The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is responsible for enforcing of the fitness center and weight reduction center laws, Wis. Stat. §§ 100.177-178. These laws include proof of financial responsibility, contract requirements and staff requirements.

Business owners can contact the department for a packet of information outlining these requirements by calling (608) 224-4996 or 1-800-422-7128 (in WI), or by e-mail at datcphotline@wi.gov.

Walk-ins are also welcome at the Consumer Protection office located on the first floor of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection office building at 2811 Agriculture Drive, Madison WI 53718-6777. Office hours are weekdays, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

DATCP provides services to educate, inform, and protect Wisconsin consumers.

DATCP licenses individuals, business and locations to protect human and animal health, the environment, and consumers.

DATCP regulates and helps develop agribusinesses including farms, and also regulates some other businesses to protect consumers.

Wisconsin farms produce milk, livestock, grain, vegetables, poultry and many other agricultural products.

DATCP protects food safety in processing, sales and storage, and promotes Wisconsin foods.

DATCP houses the State Veterinarian’s office, with authority for disease surveillance and control.

DATCP provides services to educate, regulate and protect our land and water resources.

DATCP works to protect plants and crops from harmful insects and disease.

DATCP works to assure safe food, healthy people, animals, plants and environment, vibrant agriculture and fair business practices.
