DATCP has received hundreds of complaints regarding price gouging. Most complaints describe price increases on high-demand items that are in short supply during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Although these price increases can be frustrating, most of them do not constitute a violation of the law.
Where complaints warrant further investigation, DATCP contacts the seller to request an explanation for its price increases. If the seller is able to provide adequate documentation to justify its increased costs, DATCP will close our inquiry and the complaint.
