From November 11 to 15, IABC staff joined a a trade mission to Osaka, Japan, led by the Softwood Export Council (SEC), to spotlight the role of American softwood in sustainable construction. The mission included strategic meetings with Japanese importers, industry associations, and government officials, facilitated by SEC Japan and supported by USDA Foreign Agriculture Service Agricultural Trade Office.
At the Osaka Building Show, the mission highlighted the potential for states like Wisconsin to supply premium, eco-friendly timber for Japan's growing demand. Highlights included a visit to the Osaka Lumber Brokers Cooperative, showcasing Japan's dedication to sustainable wood, and the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 site, where the Uzbekistan Pavilion—built with American Douglas Fir—exemplified innovative, renewable design.
These engagements provided insights into market trends and opportunities for collaboration and trade, offering a promising pathway for Wisconsin's forestry industry to expand exports.
