Kids Forward

Kids Forward's Comida Buena project supported Spanish-speaking and Tribal early childhood education (ECE) providers in Milwaukee and Sawyer counties through culturally relevant farm to ECE programming. In partnership with WECA and Rooted, the project delivered technical assistance, gardening supplies, and peer learning opportunities to providers. Participating programs cultivated culturally significant crops such as glandules, sweet potatoes, and beans, integrating hands-on gardening into daily routines and early childhood education. Family engagement was a key component, with activities including produce baskets, cooking demonstrations, and a group field trip to Elegant Farmer for apple picking. Providers reported increased interest in fresh produce, stronger family connections, and greater confidence in incorporating local food into meals and learning.
