In September 2024, DATCP participated in the USDA Vietnam Agricultural Trade Mission providing opportunities to engage face-to-face with Vietnamese buyers to build new trade linkages, strengthen existing partnerships, observe products in the marketplace, and identify emerging trends. There were over 100 in the delegation, including representatives from 36 U.S. agribusinesses, 25 cooperators and industry associations, and nine State Departments of Agriculture. U.S. Livestock and Genetics Export (USLGE), which is based in Wisconsin, promoted livestock genetics, learned more about Vietnam's use of reproductive technology, and identified contacts for future business.
Fresh fruit, poultry, beef, and pork are in high demand by Vietnam’s food processing, retail, and restaurant sectors. Key product opportunities for Wisconsin include value-added dairy (cheese and whey for animal feed), livestock genetics, feed supplements, and wood products.
DATCP's Division of Agricultural Development Administrator Krista Knigge (pictured, center) met with Green Plus, an importer of Wisconsin ginseng, Ginseng Board of Wisconsin, and Food Export-Midwest in-country representatives as well as cooperators in the meat and animal feed industries. Knigge conducted media interviews thanking Vietnamese consumers for recognizing the quality of Wisconsin ginseng and promoting Wisconsin's top exports to Vietnam, including soybeans, wood products, and dairy products. Knigge invited Vietnamese students to study animal genetics, sustainable agriculture, soil health, animal feed and supplements, as well as dairy from our top-rated educational institutions.
