SWRM Resources For Counties

Contour strip cropsThe Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection awards annual Soil and Water Resource Management grants to county land conservation committees and other cooperators. Grants help pay for county conservation staff and finance cost-sharing with producers who install conservation practices with county assistance.

Participating counties must have an allocation process approved by DATCP. The process is outlined in the SWRM grant working manual at right. Grant recipients must sign a contract and use the forms included in the working manual to receive reimbursement. Grant funds must be spent in the year DATCP allocates them, although DATCP may extend cost-share funds an additional year for specific projects.

DATCP revises guidelines annually for auditors to check on how counties spend state funds. Counties must file annual reports on their conservation activities. DATCP and the Department of Natural Resources together prepare an annual progress report on Wisconsin land and water conservation. These reports are available at right.
