MADISON Wisconsin was well-represented at the National FFA Convention last week in Indianapolis. One of the honorees on the national stage was Frank Friar of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

“Congratulations to Frank Friar on receiving his Honorary American Degree, an honor that is well-deserved for his many contributions to Wisconsin agriculture throughout his career. Frank is now a dedicated member of our Wisconsin Farm Center working to connect farmers with resources and make recommendations that are best for their individual operation,” said DATCP Secretary Ben Brancel. “Frank’s decades of experience provide him with a wealth of knowledge that he can share with farmers as sound advice. Especially young people entering the world of agriculture find his expertise very helpful as they begin farming.”

Friar grew up on a farm near Boscobel and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in agricultural education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He worked at Badgerland Financial for thirty years and retired as the Senior Vice President of Branch Operations. After a short retirement, he entered the workforce again at DATCP in the Farm Center, where he has been for five years assisting farmers with financial analysis, transition work and estate planning.
