MADISON – The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has a special goal planned for Farm Technology Days, and they need the public’s help to meet it. DATCP’s Consumer Protection Bureau is challenging itself to register at least 1,000 new numbers to the state’s No Call List over the course of the three-day event.
"Registering on the No Call List is the single best protection a consumer has against unwanted and intrusive telemarketing calls and text messages,” said Sandy Chalmers, Division Administrator for Trade and Consumer Protection. “In less than a minute, event attendees can sign up their residential landline and cell phones for free at the Consumer Protection booth in the Family Living Tent.
“In addition to signing up for the List, visitors to our booth will have an opportunity to learn about a wide range of consumer topics including identity theft and recent scams.”
Wisconsin’s No Call List is a free service that provides protection against certain unsolicited telemarketing phone calls and text messages. Residents must re-register their numbers every two years in order to stay active on the List.
Consumers who are not attending Farm Technology Days or who wish to register in advance can call 866-9NO-CALL (866-966-2255) or can visit nocall.wisconsin.gov from any computer. Registration by phone takes approximately 90 seconds and registration on the No Call website can be completed in less than one minute.
