On-Farm Food Safety
For Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Growers
This web-tool is designed to assist Wisconsin fresh fruit and vegetable growers with tools and resources you may need for meeting your on-farm food safety demands. The WI Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection recognizes the diversity of farms in Wisconsin and that each farm may find different tools and resources useful. The following questions are intended to help navigate the tools/resources that will be most useful for your farm operation.
A food safety plan is a written document compiled by your farm that explains the Standard Operating Procedures your farm follows to ensure you are supplying the marketplace with safe food. Many buyers are looking for assurance that farms implement food safety practices on the farm, and a plan is a good first step. Be sure to check with your buyer first to ensure your proposed plan will meet their needs.
Some growers have buyers that require them to have food safety certification and/or be audited. Be sure to check with your buyer first to ensure you pick the program that meets their needs.
