Transfer Guide

The Wisconsin Farm Center offers a publication, Farm Transfers in Wisconsin: A Guide for Wisconsin Farmers (90 page, 649 KB PDF), that can serve as a tool to help farmers work through what is usually an emotional and at times difficult process.

The guide, incorporating comments and technical advice from a wide range of respected agricultural professionals, provides practical information for farm families who are dealing with the issues involved with moving into or out of the business of farming. The Farm Transfer Guide covers such topics as family issues, farm business arrangements, financial considerations, economic feasibility, legal and tax matters, and finalizing and monitoring the transfer process.

However, since every farmer's situation is different, this publication should serve as just one of the many resources used to undertake and navigate through the farm succession process.

More information about the Farm Transfer Guide or a copy of the publication is available by calling the Farm Center at 800-942-2474.
