Animal agriculture is important in Wisconsin, with livestock including cattle and other bovine animals such as bison, swine, poultry, sheep, goats, horses and other equine animals, farm-raised deer and other cervids, bison, llamas and other camelids, ratites such as emus and ostriches, and fish. We have more than 60,000 premises in Wisconsin that keep livestock.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection registers livestock premises, houses the Livestock Facility Siting Review Board, and regulates other aspects of animal agriculture, including feeds, disease surveillance and control, and animal movement.
