Varroa Mite Control
Mite Away Quick Strips (MAQS™) are now registered as a pesticide in Wisconsin. The product, from NOD Apiary Products, Ontario, Canada, was registered in March 2011.
http://miteaway.com/ The product is also registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency. This notice should not be taken as an endorsement or product promotion but as a notice to Wisconsin beekeepers that another Varroa mite control product is now available for use in Wisconsin.

Import Restrictions on Australian Honey Bees
A federal import order, effective Dec. 21, 2010 prohibits the importation of adult honey bees
(Apis mellifera) from Australia.
Jan. 2012 - The first documentation that the phorid fly Apocephalus borealis, previously known to parasitize bumble bees, also infects and eventually kills honey bees and may pose an emerging threat to North American apiculture.
