Clean Sweep

Hazardous Waste Collection & Disposal for Businesses

Nearly any business may be able to dispose of unwanted chemicals at a local collection site as a “Very Small Quantity Generator” (VSQG) as defined by Wisconsin DNR. The business can be retail, wholesale, manufacturing, educational, or commercial real estate. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulates business waste disposal through the NR 600 series and offers many publications on hazardous waste for small quantity generators http://dnr.wi.gov/org/aw/wm/aboutprog.htm.

Pre-registration

Businesses may pre-register at their local collection site by contacting their municipality’s clean sweep coordinator.

Local Services and Collections

Local business services vary within the state. It is important to contact your municipal clean sweep coordinator to understand service availability and collection dates.

2012 Ag and Household Collection Schedule

Businesses (which can include schools, golf courses, marinas, and greenhouses), can often participate in the Clean Sweep collections for Ag and Household Hazardous waste.  Contact the local coordinator first. Preregistration may be required.

If your county is not participating in a Clean Sweep, contact your county solid waste or recycling program manager or the landfill to learn about disposal options.   A list of landfills and other solid and hazardous waste resource information is available on the Department of Natural Resources website at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Waste/Lists.html
