Asbestos and Lead Abatement

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) administers programs related to asbestos and lead exposure, including building certification, contractor certification and hazard reduction. See Wisconsin Statutes chapter 254, subchapter II.

Disclosure of Known Hazards

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) regulates unfair and deceptive business practices. DATCP has adopted a rule prohibiting unfair rental practices by landlords (see Unfair Rental Practices). Among other things, this rule requires landlords to disclose serious health and safety hazards to prospective tenants. The rule also requires landlords to disclose uncorrected housing code violations identified by local authorities (see Local Housing Codes).
