Johne’s Disease: Other Species

Johne's disease can strike any ruminant including domestic and wild species. Other species besides ruminants can also be infected although most do not show signs of disease and are not thought to be a significant source of infection for ruminants.

Goat producers can participate in the Wisconsin Johne's Disease Control Program at either the management level (see Risk Assessment and Management Plan-RAMP) or the classification level (see Herd Classification Program). 

The Johne’s Information Center has extensive information about Johne’s disease specific to several different species.

The University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Continuing Education website offers narrated presentations online concerning Johne’s disease in different species. Producer modules are available free of charge. There is a fee to register for veterinary modules.
