Executive Assistant Susan Buroker

Susan Buroker was appointed Executive Assistant of the department in January 2011 by Secretary Ben Brancel. She is a long-time employee of the department, having risen through the ranks to her current post.

Buroker first joined DATCP in 1992, working as an assistant in the office of then-Secretary Alan Tracy. When Secretary Brancel came to DATCP in 1998 for his first term, Buroker was managing day-to-day operations the Office of the Secretary. Brancel appointed her administrator of the department’s Division of Management Services. She has served in that capacity until now, overseeing the department’s information technology, laboratory services, human resources, finance, mail and print services, facility management and GIS functions. One important achievement during this time has been the successful effort to win approval to build a new facility to house all the department’s laboratories.

Buroker has represented the Secretary over the years as a delegate to meetings of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture and Midwest Association of State Departments of Agriculture. All four secretaries for whom she has worked have recognized her with Exceptional Service Awards. She also sits on the board of the State Laboratory of Hygiene.

Buroker and her husband live in New Glarus.
