MADISON – As you visit Portage County Farm Technology Days August 12 – 14, connect with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Staff will be located at four areas across the grounds to answer questions and provide information.

“Farm Technology Days allows farmers and consumers to talk one-on-one with us about current issues and concerns,” said DATCP Secretary Ben Brancel. “We look forward to meeting with visitors to discuss topics from nutrient management to consumer protection and provide information about available services for farms and businesses.”

Progress Pavilion

Stop by the Progress Pavilion to learn about the results of the 2012 Census of Agriculture, just released earlier this year. Discover more about our agricultural exports’ destinations by meeting staff of the Wisconsin International Trade Team.

Also in the Progress Pavilion, the agency’s animal health veterinarians will be on hand to answer questions. Sign up for DriftWatch™ to protect our state’s specialty crops and apiaries. Learn more about what Wisconsin is doing to survey pests that can damage our crops, plants and trees.

Applied Technology Center

A visit to the Applied Technology Center will allow you to meet with members of DATCP’s Division of Agricultural Development. Learn about available business services including one-on-one assistance and educational seminars for farmers, agribusinesses and organizations. Ask questions about the Grow Wisconsin Dairy 30x20 Initiative.

“I encourage attendees to learn more about the technical support available from DATCP throughout the year for farmers to access resources and improve profitability,” added Brancel. “Our staff can help make business plans, assist with transitions and identify marketing opportunities.”

Family Living Tent

The Division of Trade and Consumer Protection will again have a booth in the Family Living Tent. Learn how to avoid the latest scams and protect your identity. Pick up consumer tips to share with your friends and family.

Conservation Tent

DATCP will host a new activity in the Conservation Tent at this year’s Farm Technology Days. Nutrient management staff will challenge attendees to a game of manure toss to learn more about pesticide and fertilizer application. Learn more about the Manure Management Advisory system, an online tool to help identify high risk fields and provide forecasts for high-runoff risk times.
