MADISON – The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has initiated a default proceeding against Allens, Inc. (Allens) under the state’s agricultural producer security law.
DATCP received information that Allens filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on October 28, 2013, and the agency has received several complaints from Wisconsin producers about non-payment for vegetables sold to the company.
DATCP administers the state’s agricultural producer security trust fund to partially reimburse producers in the event that they are not paid for their goods. Producers who have sold goods to Allens and have not been paid must file a claim with DATCP by December 20, 2013 to be eligible for reimbursement under the fund. To make a claim, please contact Eric Hanson at 608-224-4968 or via email: Eric.Hanson@wi.gov
